Dear West Hopkins Community,
As the Principal of West Hopkins, it is a privilege to serve such an exemplary community. My goal is to collaborate with you, your child, and our dedicated staff to nurture a strong sense of community that enhances student achievement. I am committed to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment where children can thrive, parents feel valued, and community support is strong. Our children are our future, and it is crucial that we exemplify professional and family values.
I am proud to be a lifelong member of the West Hopkins area. I grew up here, attended high school, taught for nine years, and served as an assistant principal for two years before becoming principal. My career in education has also included roles as a science teacher, Title I school level coordinator, teacher leader, and athletic coach and director. These varied experiences have taught me that fostering a robust school community, where administration, staff, and parents work together, is key to increasing and sustaining high student achievement.
Creating a supportive and welcoming atmosphere is essential for educating the students of West Hopkins. I strive to make our school a place where students feel comfortable, loved, and at home, which is fundamental to their academic success.
I have always appreciated the support of parents in promoting good classroom behavior, which is vital for ensuring a quality education. For effective learning, it is essential that children behave appropriately so that teachers can teach and students can learn. I urge you to discuss the importance of proper classroom behavior with your child.
Attendance is also a critical factor in student success. Regular attendance ensures that students can fully participate in discussions, ask questions, and interact with teachers and peers. When students miss school, it is challenging to make up for lost time. We expect all students to maintain high attendance rates, and we appreciate your support in this regard.
The role of the home in education cannot be overstated. Your encouragement, interest in your child's work, and involvement in school activities demonstrate to your child that you value their education. Together, we can make every year a successful one for your child.
I firmly believe that strong partnerships between parents and the school lead to academic success for all students. I invite you to visit our school and actively participate in your child’s education. Participation can take many forms, including joining the PTO, volunteering at the school, checking your child’s homework and agenda daily, attending school-wide events, and communicating any questions or concerns. Your support is essential in making this the best school year yet for your child. I look forward to a fantastic year and consider it a great privilege and responsibility to be your child's principal. Thank you in advance for your continued support and cooperation.
Respectfully,
Eric Stone
